Intermediate design; This was one of 8 JTA Shihan exam designs. Personal composition, originally posted 2008, contributed by Ginny T.
Materials: 28 cm circum mari, wrapped in white Pearl Cotton #5 in green, blue, red, yellow, black Marking thread in metallic gold Prepare an 8-Combination Division |
Design is made in three layers, kousa style. First layer is Sakasa Uwagake using triangles shown in Diagram 01. Second layer is Masu Kagari and triangles shown in Diagram 02. Final layer is single thread black outline of all shapes.
Locate the 12 blue larger diamonds shown in diagram, A-B-C-D.
Work one row in blue in each diamond, using sakasa
uwagake. Start each shape close to pole. Locate the 24 green smaller diamonds shown in diagram, 1-2-3-4. Work one row in green in each diamond. Repeat rows, working kousa style, for 4 rows. Design will work inwards toward center of shapes. |
|
Locate the 6 red squares shown in diagram, 1-2-3-4. Starting point is halfway between marking line intersections. Stitch one row in red in each square. Locate the 8 yellow triangles shown in diagram, A-B-C. Starting point is halfway between marking line intersections. Stitch one row in yellow in each triangle; points of the yellow triangles overlap into the spaces of the red squares. Squares and triangles will form Kousa/interweave. Design will work outward from first rows. Repeat for 4 rows. To finish, work one row of black thread around each shape. Be sure to keep original layers and sequence. Use medium gold metallic thread to work matsuba kagari / long straight stitches, crossing in each shape center. Tack centers. |
