Materials: 23 cm circum mari, blue Pearl Cotton #5 in colors of your choice Marking thread in gold Prepare an 8-Combination Division with metallic thread |
This is a Hitohude
Gake (One stroke/thread figure) design. The design is worked on the center of a C8 face. The example shows the design worked on two opposite faces, with embellishment in the remaining white spaces. The element can also be adjusted to be done on a smaller scale within the faces so as to work more elements on the ball. Either way, the process is the same. Locate one of the six poles of a C8 division. Locate points 1 through 8, and stitch the pattern following these points. The design will work outward from the center and interweave as it progresses. The final round may be worked in a metallic accent thread. Repeat the element on the opposite pole. Embellish the remaining space on the mari as desired; the example shows interwoven spindles worked on each of the remaining poles. Alternatively, sprays of matsuba kagari may be used for an effective outcome. |
