Add marking lines using regular marking thread (shown in black
in photo to left. Simple 4 in waste thread is in gray):
beginning at one of the S4 intersections at the equator,
continue as though laying down an 8
Combination. The cross-over of the extra marking line is
at the 1/2 point between poles of the waste thread marking. |
Focus on the 6-point centers. Determine the distance between
them. For example - determine distance from A to B. Divide this
distance into thirds and place pins. |
|
Change to regular marking thread, stitch a pair of hexagons
using the pins and the 4 point centers in the diamonds as the
corners as shown in blue thread. |
Turn the ball over and rotate it 90 degrees. Repeat the process of stitching 2 hexagons.
Create 12 point centers in the hexagons by connecting the centers to the outer corners of the adjacent hexagons as shown in pink thread. Lines will bisect the sides of the hexagon. Repeat in each hexagon.
Remove the original Simple 4 waste thread marking. You can now see the pentagons that have formed throughout the process, as highlighted by the yellow pins in the corners.
Complete dividing the pentagons into 10 point centers by laying marking lines from a point 1/2 length of a side to the opposite corner. This completes the marking, resulting in 4 hexagons each surrounded by 6 pentagons; the pentagons orient in groups of three. |
