Materials: 28cm wrapped in beige thread. Pearl cotton #8 in rust and teal Marking thread: off-white #8 pearl Prepare a 10-Combination Division |
Add extra marking lines using off-white pearl cotton. Locate
one of the 12 pentagons. Referring to diagram 1, use pins
to mark the midpoints of XA, XB, XC, XD, XE. Repeat on the
remaining pentagons. Stitch from 1 to 2, to 3. This
will form a zig-zag which should be continued around the
ball. Repeat this process until each pentagon contains a
star. Tack the 8 way intersections. |
|
Diamonds: Locate one of the 30 diamonds. A rust diamond will be stitched inside this diamond. Referring to diagram 2, place pins at a, b, c and d, 1/4 of the distance from A-X, B-X, C-X and D-X. Using rust, stitch from a-b-c-d-a for a total of 4 rounds. Repeat on the remaining 29 diamonds. |
Triangles: Five triangles will be stitched around each pentagon center. Referring to diagram 2, place 3 pins for each triangle. Place pin #1 such that A-1 is congruent to A-a. Place pin #2 on the extra marking line, inside the rust colored diamond. Place pin #3 on the extra marking line, such that X-3 is congruent to A-a. Teal triangles will be stitched nejiri style with the diamonds. Refer to diagram 2 for interlocking pattern. Stitch from 1-2-3-1 for a total of 4 rounds. Note that the stitches at pin #2 should not reach the center of the diamond. The stitches at pin #3 should reach the center of the diamond. Repeat until there are 5 triangles around each pole. |
