This is an all-over design; the mari wrap will not be visible
when the temari is completed. Begin with Pentagon A. Locate Points 1 through 5, going out beyond the marker lines of the pentagon, halfway between the side line and the center of the neighboring pentagon. Work a round of stitching from Point 1 to 3 to 5 to 2 to 4. This is the point sequence that will be repeated throughout all rounds. Move to Pentagon B, locate the Points 1 to 5 relative to that pentagon, and stitch the sequence indicated previously. Repeat this for all 12 pentagons on the ball. After this cycle is completed, repeat the same sequences with another layer of thread, working around all 12 pentagons, and so forth. The points of the "stars" that you stitch around each pentagon center will be working out toward the center of the pentagon it is pointing to. As those points all come to meet at the pentagon centers, the ball is covered, and complete. The color sequence for this example was white then medium blue, then natural, then the dark blue. |
